 Assistive Technology (AT)?

  • AT is any item, piece of equipment, software program or product system that is used to increase, maintain or improve the functional capabilities of persons with disabilities.

MoHFW–>launched the 2nd phase of “Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojna” for the underprivileged Thalassemic patients.

  • Union government’s plan to distribute subsidised iron-fortified rice may do more harm than good to Adivasis, or indigenous populations, who suffer from sickle-cell anaemia and thalassemia and are genetically prone to these ailments.
  • thalassemia— genetic blood disorder= less hbg than normal.
  • sickle-cell anaemia–genetic+ inherited red blood disorder.. c shaped.. carry less O2 and die early. 
  • Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) program was launched in 2017 and is funded by Coal India Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). It will be extended for next 2 years from 2020.
  • Fortification is the addition of key vitamins and minerals such as iron, iodine, zinc, Vitamin A & D to staple foods such as rice, milk and salt to improve their nutritional content.
